ABOUT US /HISTORY

The journey of Signature Fragrances Limited started from Thika, previously known as Chania Bridge. It is a town situated at a distance of 42 kilometres from Nairobi, Kenya. Towards the end of the 19th Century, Europeans, Asians and the British started settling in Thika. In 1945, a family of three brothers instituted the primeval version of today’s Signature Fragrances Limited under the brand name of ‘Liberty’ and started manufacturing handmade paraffin wax candles using the dipping method. Considering that electricity was not so common at that time, the business flourished. A candle-making machine was introduced and new product lines were added including shoe and floor polishes. The business expanded with candle production in Asmara, Ethiopia using surplus steam from a galvanising plant for heating waxes. In its fourth generation now the business interest from candle manufacturing to the supply of waxes for candles and other industries in UK, Africa and Caribbean.
In early 2017, the family decided to add fragrances and reeds to the product line. The use of fragrances is an ancient phenomenon. Different aromas have been known to play an active part in stimulating different moods and reducing stress levels. Pleasant fragrances tend to play a substantial part in emotional and mental and physical healing by reducing the impact of negative feelings and establishing an atmosphere of calmness and serenity.
